Grim Reading..... The Kissimee Cat Tragedy

..... that's what this article makes. If you are easily upset, please don't click through - you will weep as hundreds if not thousands of us have done. Summarised briefly for you, according to the press, the authorities in Osceola County left a cat locked in a house to starve to death. They knew it was there, someone took pictures but, still, they left it to die. They claim they did not have the 'jurisdiction' to save its life.

Now; unlike a lot of people, I am not going to stand by and let this be a one day horror on the 'net. With Mom's help I am going to write to the local Board of Commissioners expressing my horror.  I earnestly request that you do the same. Perhaps we can make a difference and ensure this poor cat did not die in vain. It is too easy to walk away and do nothing....

Board of Commissioners Address (publicly available thanks to their comprehensive web pages)

Administration Building
1 Courthouse Square
Kissimmee, FL, 34741
(407) 742-2000
M - F: 8am - 5pm

Don't know what to say or write? Check my draft letters here (coming in an hour or so Mum has to draft them). Why letters? Letters are a physical presence, a call to their conscience, and ensure online privacy. They cannot ignore letters. The list of Commissioners to write to is here.

All I ask is that you express your horror in simple terms, with restraint, not with anger, calm letters expressing sorrow, disappointment and horror will carry much more impact, and may urge them to make changes.

***I quote the bottom on their web page here :- Under Florida law, e-mail addresses are public records. If you do not want your e-mail address released in response to a public records request, do not send electronic mail to this entity. Instead contact this office by phone or in writing.****

(my underline) This means writing is better.
