OK Anipals. I have a bit of a warning for you. OK maybe not a warning just a caution.
My sisfur Sienna is just turned one (Sienna : I'm One year and nearly two months - huh!) She came to us having been returned to the vet by her first buyer as "feral". OK, OK, we play and fool around, and I growl at her sometimes - but feral - no way is my sisfur feral.
OK, to the point then. We have a catnip cigar, it's quite potent and after a couple of years is still full of the smell of "da 'nip". Now, Sienna got a good sniff of this cigar while mum was looking the other way - and she turned all squiffy, her pupils dilated and she went funny.
Mum said Sienna had sniffed a bit too much 'nip and had to spend some time just cuddling her quietly on the bed to calm her down. This taught me a lesson - take care with youngsters near catnip. It can have a strong effect on their young systems and they might not be able to cope.
Thanks for listening. * nosetaps *
Mishkat has kindly commented on my blog post and I must pass on her advice. * checks comment * She say: " Franklin really likes valerian, and we were going to suggest it as a substitute - but even though it is calming in humans, it seems to have the opposite effect on cats!" so check out VALERIAN if you need a safer 'nip substitute K?
